Parallel Transport & Holonomy

A tangent vector is transported along a piecewise-geodesic closed path on S². Because S² has non-zero curvature, the vector returns rotated; this rotation is the holonomy angle. By Gauss–Bonnet, it equals the solid angle (area) enclosed by the path.
